Constructed in 1970, Utah's Spiral Jetty is the work of American sculptor Robert Smithson that he documented in a film. Made of basalt rock, salt and mude, it forms a 15-foot long coil that is 1,500 feet long. In 1999, through the generosity of the artist Nancy Holt, Smithson’s wife, and the Estate of Robert Smithson, the artwork was donated to Dia Art Foundation.
