I can’t believe I got to see coatimundis in the wild. They’re the rarest animal I’ve ever seen in Arizona. They live all the way down to Argentina and they’re a part of the raccoon family, though their tails are much longer. They’re diurnal and they eat insects. They’ll eat anything, snake, tarantula, lizard, but they like grubs and different insects the most. They’re beautiful animals. If you happen to see one, well, you’ll have done better than I have the last 30 years I’ve lived here. #coati

An unusual animal was spotted in Arizona’s Coronado National Forest! A coatimundi, which looks like a cross between a raccoon and an anteater, was seen wandering the snow-covered Mount Lemmon in the Santa Catalina Mountains. U.S. Forest Service firefighters captured this video while doing prescribed burns in the area. The coatimundi, or coati, is a member of the raccoon family found from Arizona to South America. “It has a long snout with a flexible nose which it uses to root in the soil for gru

It isn't every day you see a coatimundi, let alone a mother carrying her coati kit! This cool moment at Tonto Natural Bridge State Park on the Waterfall Trail was observed from a respectful distance by a lucky member of our Grants and Trails team. Coatimundi!! These amazing creatures are diurnal mammals native to South America, Central America, Mexico and even southern Arizona. This overly friendly group was filmed in Mexico. In general they range from 14-28” in length from the head to base of the tail and can be compared to the size of an extremely large house cat. They typically live up to 8 years in the wild and up to 15 in captivity. #procyonidae #coati #coatimundi #wildlife #animaladdict #nasua #mexicowildlife #mexico #arizonawildlif

More coatimundi cuteness! I did not put any music over this video so you can hear the sounds coatis make. They are naturally chatty animals that make a variety of noises, including clicks, grunts, chirps, and whistles. (These are wild coatimundis, not captive or in any kind of zoo or preserve.) The main sound you are hearing in this video is foraging communication. As coatis forage for food, they often click, grunt, and whistle to keep in contact with the other members of the band. 📍Arizona #co

Coatimundis are omnivores, eating everything from insects and small animals to fruit and nuts. Their long snout has a surprisingly flexible nose that is designed for digging up grubs and other delicious sub-terranean dwelling meals. #foryou #exoticanimals #coatimundi #animal #fyp

We caught a coatimundi this weekend! And moved Lola and the new one we just caught into a new enclosure today! We will have a full YouTube video on catching the new coatimundi with @gabbynikolle up later tonight or tomorrow, but check out the short clip of us catching it that the homeowner filmed of us on a potato phone. We brought the new coati to the vet this morning and got her checked out, she had a horribly overgrown nail that was curled all the way back into her paw. Coatis are not native
