Minute Ventilation (aka Minute Volume): the amount of air we are moving in/out of the patient per minute. This volume is driven by how much CO2 clearance the patient needs. It can be accomplished with fewer larger breaths or with more frequent small breaths. It’s imperative to understand your patient’s needs and their unique lung dynamics when determining mechanical ventilator settings.
