Tales from Iceland: The Great Geysir here in southwestern Iceland goes back some 10,000 years. The adjacent hot springs, with bubbling, boiling water, were first written about in 1294. The geysir (that’s how it’s spelled here) emerges skyward every five minutes or so. Other times it can go dormant for long stretches. This was very best to see today! Litli Geysir, Iceland has many geysers, including Geysir, from which the English word is derived, and the famous Strokkur, which erupts every 5–10 minutes. There are around thirty small geysers and hot pools around Strokkur, including this one called "Litli Geysir".
