President Donald Trump has deployed the National Guard to quell riots in Los Angeles, taking more firm actions than he did against violent protests in 2020 after George Floyd's death.
In response to the protests in his state, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, has announced that he intends to deploy the National Guard across the state to “ensure peace and order” ahead of further planned demonstrations against the Trump Administration’s immigration policies.
The Republican said troops “will use every tool & strategy" to "maintain order" as people across the country protest Donald Trump's mass deportation agenda.
In Austin, 12 people were arrested Monday during a protest in which officers were hit by rocks and other missiles and police used tear gas to disperse a crowd making its way to the J.J. Pickle Federal Building, which houses an ICE office.
