The SEC’s lawsuit — filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama — was submitted on the same day a Baton Rouge judge was set to rule on a preliminary injunction hearing that would allow 40-plus athletes to return to college for a fifth year of eligibility.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A courtroom a couple miles from LSU's Tiger Stadium was the focus of college football Thursday, when several dozen athletes awaited a ruling that could clear the way for them to compete in NCAA games this fall — even if they already turned pro.

LSU is targeting last minute needs after recent ruling on new eligibility rules.

Blake Cotton, who was cut by the Broncos earlier this summer, is poised to return to college football to play for LSU.

Via Amanda Christovich of Front Office Sports, the complaint alleges that LSU and Kiffin “waged a deliberate and coordinated campaign to recruit professional athletes to play football for LSU during the 2026-27 season, including players who had signed NFL contracts with the Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.”
