Test takers seeking to practice law in California experienced chaos this week as the State Bar of California fumbled the rollout of its new attorney licensing test, leaving many unable to complete their bar exams and some filing a proposed federal class action lawsuit.

The California Supreme Court has said nothing publicly about the problems that have plagued the February bar exam.

Many aspiring lawyers could not access the test and cited delays or other issues. A lawmaker has called for an investigation.

The Supreme Court of California needs to intervene to help bar exam takers following the chaotic rollout of the state's new test this week, several California law school deans said on Thursday.

Seventeen deans of ABA-approved law schools also urged the high court to move the bar exam back to in-person testing sites in July and to scrap the new Kaplan-written questions. State bar staff have recommended returning to the testing-sites format for this summer's test.
