The Israeli military has intercepted a Gaza-bound aid ship seeking to break the Israeli blockade of the Palestinian territory, detaining 21 international activists and journalists and seizing all cargo,

July 26 (Reuters) - Aid trucks started moving towards Gaza from Egypt, the Egyptian state-affiliated Al Qahera News TV said on Sunday, after months of international pressure and warnings from relief agencies of starvation spreading in the Palestinian enclave.

Earlier, aid agencies criticised Israel's airdrop plan arguing it would deliver very little and and endanger civilian lives.

The Israel Defense Forces said Sunday it would begin a scheduled "tactical" pause of its military activities in three areas in Gaza, as it opens aid corridors to allow food and medicine into the enclave.

Israel has long restricted aid to Gaza on the argument that Hamas steals it to use as a weapon of control over the population. On Saturday, the Israeli military announced new airdrops of aid.

Palestinian health officials and the local ambulance service say Israeli airstrikes and gunfire have killed at least 42 people in Gaza.
