There are 50 characters to use in Mario Kart World, though not all of them are available immediately. There are 32 characters available at the start, with seven unlocked by completing Grand Prix races and 11 acquired by the Kamek transformation item during a race. Here is the full list.

Players have discovered the information Mario Kart World gives about the stats of its character and karts isn't entirely true, as testing certain combinations of characters and vehicles have produced some surprising results.

Here are all of the new characters arriving in Mario Kart World: While Chargin' Chuck, Hammer Bro, Monty Mole and Nabbit could all be considered new characters to the mainline Mario Kart franchise, it's important to note that they previously appeared in Mario Kart Tour for mobile devices.

World also introduces Knockout Tour, a non-stop endurance race from one end of the map to another, in which the goal is to remain above a constantly dwindling placement threshold to avoid being eliminated. It’s hands down the best mode in the game and really comes to life online, where races are almost impossibly chaotic.

Every character can use every kart in Mario Kart World, and a character’s weight class determines their kart’s handling, top speed, and acceleration. You can’t customize kart parts in Mario Kart World like you could in Mario Kart 8, so weight class is the only factor determining a kart’s stats.

Mario Kart World has introduced one mechanic that I was personally surprised to see, and that’s Dash Food. These are snacks – lovingly crafted and handed out by Yoshis across the map – that you can consume while racing or free-roaming for a quick boost, and with some luck, a new costume for the character you’re playing.
