There are 50 characters to use in Mario Kart World, though not all of them are available immediately. There are 32 characters available at the start, with seven unlocked by completing Grand Prix races and 11 acquired by the Kamek transformation item during a race. Here is the full list.

Every character can use every kart in Mario Kart World, and a character’s weight class determines their kart’s handling, top speed, and acceleration. You can’t customize kart parts in Mario Kart World like you could in Mario Kart 8, so weight class is the only factor determining a kart’s stats.

Mario Kart World has introduced one mechanic that I was personally surprised to see, and that’s Dash Food. These are snacks – lovingly crafted and handed out by Yoshis across the map – that you can consume while racing or free-roaming for a quick boost, and with some luck, a new costume for the character you’re playing.
