Republicans on the Ohio Ballot Board split a proposed amendment to enshrine equal rights in the state constitution into two parts on Wednesday, throwing a fork in the road of the petitioners’ process.

A grassroots group suffered a setback Wednesday in its effort to put an equal rights amendment on the ballot in Ohio.

The move means that amendment backers now need to gather twice as many signatures to get both proposals on the ballot.
