NEW YORK (AP) — This Thanksgiving, solar storms may produce faint auroras across the northern rim of the United States. Pale auroras may be seen across many northern states Thursday and Friday, but they may be brief and and seeing them will depend on how intense the solar storms get, NOAA meteorologist Mike Bettwy said in an email.

Northern lights should be visible on Thanksgiving and Black Friday from New York to Idaho thanks to an incoming solar storm, according to NOAA.

The northern lights may be visible as far south as New York and Idaho in the coming days thanks to a geomagnetic storm roiling over Earth. These aurorae will result from the arrival of a coronal mass ejection (CME) flung out from one of the sun's sunspots,

As if Thanksgiving and Black Friday couldn’t be exciting enough, it appears some solar activity could bring the northern lights to part of the U.S. to round out the holiday week. NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) issued a geomagnetic storm watch for the next two days due to a filament eruption spotted on the Sun late Monday.

A series of geomagnetic storms are expected later in the week, pulling the northern lights further south to more states.
