The last time the National Weather Service recorded a tornado touching down in Metro Detroit was on July 2, 1997.

The National Weather Service will have a team in Detroit on Friday morning to survey damage after a suspected tornado hit the city's east side Thursday afternoon. If confirmed, it would mark the first tornado inside the city limits since July 2, 1997, when an F-2 tornado struck the city, injuring 90 residents.

More bad weather is pushing into Metro Detroit following a heavy round of thunder, lighting, and downpours that hit the region Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

After storms hit the Detroit region on Wednesday night, more rolled through on Thursday afternoon prompting tornado warnings from the NWS.

Severe weather has rolled across most of Southeast Michigan twice throughout Tuesday.

One tornado was confirmed by the Detroit National Weather Service in the Marysville area. Damage surveys underway in other areas.
