It’s perhaps an understatement when Mikaela Shiffrin says that she has been on “quite a journey” this season. That doesn’t do justice to the mental and physical obstacles she has had to overcome in order to reach a landmark 100th World Cup win.

After a bruising crash last November, Mikaela Shiffrin dominated the slopes on Sunday and made skiing history once again.

Shiffrin became the first Alpine skier to hit 100 career World Cup wins, topping the podium in a slalom race Sunday in Italy.

Shiffrin’s record-extending 100th career World Cup race win Sunday fulfilled a quest put on hold by a serious crash in November. Back to racing in her favored slalom event, Shiffrin kept and added to her first-run lead to finish 0.61 seconds ahead of Zrinka Ljutic. Shiffrin’s U.S. teammate Paula Moltzan was third, 0.64 back.
