The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, accusing it of denying residents their right to bear arms by stalling their concealed carry license application process.
Individual courts can allow judges and magistrates to carry firearms inside buildings, but there are no blanket regulations. The proposed bill would allow magistrates, judges and other statewide elected officials, such as legislators, to carry firearms so long as they have a valid concealed carry license.
