The College Football Playoff selection committee has a challenging task at hand weighing head-to-head, schedules, body of work and current level of play for the next rankings.

Miami and Texas made final pushes to jump in rankings for at-large CFP bids while Georgia secured its spot in the playoffs and could return to the Sugar Bowl.

The committee won't reward a three-loss nonchampion without total chaos ahead of them, and changing the standard now would undermine every precedent they've set. Texas is a good team with one great win -- not a playoff résumé. The Horns belong in the conversation but not in the bracket.

All the teams that needed to win to secure — if not truly clinch — spots in the College Football Playoff did so this weekend.

The TaxSlayer Gator Bowl on Dec. 27 could feature prominent college football programs like Texas, Miami, or Oklahoma. Bowl selections depend on the final College Football Playoff rankings, with many teams still in contention.

Does Miami have a strong case to be above 10-2 Notre Dame? Absolutely, considering its head-to-head. But this could have been avoided by beating Louisville, SMU.
