Though it was expected, not having Victor Wembanyama Saturday against the Memphis Grizzlies is going to make breaking that skid even tougher. Wembanyama has missed the Spurs' last five games after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.

Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant was a late scratch due to his ongoing right shoulder soreness. He was joined on the bench by Desmond Bane, Brandon Clarke and Vince Williams Jr., which opened a rotation spot for recently signed G League guard Lamar Stevens to make his first appearance of the season.

“Jaren Jackson Jr. would be eligible to sign a super max extension worth an extra $198M if he wins Defensive Player of the Year,” ESPN wrote on Instagram. “He is currently the favorite to win DPOY now that Victor Wembanyama is out for the season and ineligible for the NBA’s end-of-season awards.”

The San Antonio Spurs will face the Memphis Grizzlies without their star rookie Victor Wembanyama, who is out for the season due to illness. The Spurs, already dealing with multiple injuries, will be shorthanded against the Grizzlies.
