According to The Athletic’s Michael Russo, the Wild placed Marcus Johansson on injured reserve Thursday and will miss at least a week.

In tonight's game against the Minnesota Wild, Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid threw a elbow out to connect with Marcus Johansson's head, which will likely lead to discipline from Player Safety.

The incident occurred after McDavid and Garland became entangled in the high slot for about 15 seconds. Frustration boiled over as McDavid wrestled free and delivered a "brutal cross-check," as described by one of the Sportsnet game announcers, that struck Garland in the head, sending him to the ice.

Wild head coach John Hynes was pretty frustrated after the game about the non-call on McDavid's elbow. He didn't even want to give us an explanation or what the referee's told him.

Connor McDavid and Tyler Myers received match penalties for cross-checking in the dying seconds between the Oilers and Canucks. Both coaches were asked about the ending.

This is not the first time that McDavid has faced disciplinary action. He served a two-game suspension in February 2019 for a hit to the head on then-New York Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy. Additionally, he was fined $5,000 in March 2021.
