Eastern Washington held Sacramento State to 15 points in the first half and cruised to a 65-54 victory Saturday in a men’s basketball game at The Nest in Sacramento. “We’re starting to get better,” EWU head coach Dan Monson said in a postgame radio interview. “We have a ways to go to be in the top of this league, but today was a good start.”

Included in the nine was senior Nathan Green who broke the UW and Dempsey Indoor records with a blazing time of 3 minutes, 50.74 seconds. That time broke former teammate and 2023 and 2024 NCAA mile champion Luke Houser’s record of 3:51.73.

Kolton Mitchell, the redshirt freshman from Lake City High, scored all 11 of his points in the first half. He also finished with five rebounds and three assists.

“Don Monson is the first name that is always brought up,” says current UI coach Alex Pribble. “What a great person. To have his son here in the building, even if he is coaching against us, it is great to have the name Monson back in the building.”

While many Eastern Washington University students went home for winter, the men’s and women’s basketball teams stayed busy. The two teams combined to play nine games during the school’s three-week break.
