The College Football Playoff selection committee has a challenging task at hand weighing head-to-head, schedules, body of work and current level of play for the next rankings.
A win over Pittsburgh coupled with losses by Virginia (to Virginia Tech) and SMU (to California) clinches an appearance in the ACC title game. Then, a win in that one on Dec. 6 would push Miami to, at worst, the No. 11 seed in the final bracket.
Miami and Texas made final pushes to jump in rankings for at-large CFP bids while Georgia secured its spot in the playoffs and could return to the Sugar Bowl.
The committee won't reward a three-loss non-champion without total chaos ahead of them, and changing the standard now would undermine every precedent they've set. Texas is a good team with one great win -- not a playoff resume. The Horns belong in the conversation but not in the bracket.
