Winter grabbing Texas by scruff this weekend with snow in parts of state
It really hasn’t felt like winter in Texas lately, but that will change in a big way starting this weekend with snow possible in parts of the Lone Star State.
Snow accumulations >5" are expected across the NW TX and OK Panhandles through much of the day, with lighter totals of 1-4" favored generally north of the Canadian River Valley. There are low chances for localized totals >8", with snowfall rates of 1-2"/hr possible. #phwx pic.twitter.com/rGNqvHppOc
Texas has experienced above-average temperatures lately, but that could change this weekend amid a cold front with chances of snow.
With La Niña in place, snow is even less likely in South Texas this year, but history shows significant winter storms still occur from time to time.
