Hurricane Karina strengthened Monday into a powerful Category 4 storm in the Pacific Ocean but isn’t threatening land, forecasters said.

Tropical Storm Edouard churned ⁠out ⁠of the Gulf of ⁠Mexico and sloshed ashore near the Texas-Louisiana border on ​Tuesday, packing sustained winds of up to 60 miles per hour and ‌unleashing soaking downpours.

Tropical Storm Edouard made landfall near Johnson Bayou along the Texas-Louisiana border Tuesday afternoon as the third named storm to hit the Gulf Coast during the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, National Hurricane Center forecasters said.

Forecasters were quick to point out that the storm’s name, days after the death of Dolly Parton, was a coincidence.
