Balen Shah's expression of gratitude comes after Nepal FM Shishir Khanal's call to shift from conventional humanitarian aid to "climate compensation".

Nepal says the devastating Himalayan floods have exposed the growing cost of climate change. Kathmandu is now seeking compensation from major emitters including India, China and the US.

Shisir Khanal blamed China, the US and India — the largest greenhouse gas emitters — and said the nations have a "historical responsibility to compensate vulnerable nations like Nepal".
