US President-Elect Donald Trump has publicly celebrated the resignation of the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Christopher Wray. In a statement, Trump termed Wray’s resignation a victory for justice and the end of what he termed the “weaponization” of the US Department of Justice.

FBI Director Christopher Wray told bureau workers Wednesday he plans to resign at the end of President Joe Biden's term in January, an announcement that came a week and a half after President-elect Donald Trump said he would nominate loyalist Kash Patel for the job.

President-elect Donald Trump previously announced he will nominate Kash Patel for the role, although Wray still had three years remaining on his 10-year term.
