Dianna Russini appears to be preparing for a return to sports media five months after leaving The Athletic, and one familiar landing spot has emerged as the early favorite. Front Office Sports’ Michael McCarthy reported Thursday that Russini is “absolutely” planning a comeback and has discussed multiple opportunities.

On the same day that The Athletic issued its internal review of the Dianna Russini situation, word has emerged that Russini "absolutely" intends to return to sports media.

Dianna Russini is reportedly gearing up for her media return sooner rather than later, and she might already have a job lined up. The sports journalist is on the market for a new job after leaving her position as a senior NFL insider for The Athletic in April.

The 2026 NFL offseason has featured plenty of controversies, and none were bigger than the Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini scandal. However, quite a few NFL media members have refused to discuss the Russini-Vrabel saga.

Dianna Russini has been largely absent from the NFL media landscape since her stunning departure from The Athletic earlier this year. One of her former colleagues does not expect that absence to last much longer.
