The Syrian army is moving to take control of areas previously held by the SDF in the governorate of Aleppo. Its forces have taken control of Deir Hafer, some 50km (30 miles) east of the city of Aleppo, after the SDF announced it would start withdrawing from its strongholds in the city.
Over a million Syrian refugees have now returned since the fall of Assad, but the country's education system is struggling with a third of schools unusable.
