Meta is making its first major minority investment in an outside company as it tries to catch up to a growing field of artificial intelligence rivals.

Meta is launching a new AI lab focused on creating “superintelligence” — systems more powerful than the human mind. As part of the plan, Scale AI founder Alexandr Wang will join the effort, with Meta also negotiating a potential $10 billion investment in his company.
