A former terrorist fired a shot at former Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar. A policeman overpowered the attacker before he could hit Badal, who was performing 'sewa' due to a fractured leg.

Sukhbir Singh Badal narrowly escaped an assassination attempt while serving 'tankhaiya', or penance, at the Golden Temple. Narayan Singh Chaura, a former terrorist, fired at Badal.

Bhullar praised their efforts, saying, “Due to the alertness and deployment of our police, this attack attempt was foiled. Our personnel displayed alertness and foiled the attempts. Narain Singh Chaura, who has a criminal record, has been arrested. A case has been registered. There were adequate arrangements for Sukhbir Singh Badal's security.”

Narain Singh Chaura, an alleged associate of the banned pro-Khalistan group Babbar Khalsa, was arrested on Wednesday morning for attempting to fire on former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal,

"This is the place of Wahe Guru, He protects us. ''Seva'' will continue. We trust the Almighty," Balwinder Singh Bhunder said. According to police officials, Badal was not hurt.

Narayan Singh Chawla tried to assassinate Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal at the Golden Temple. The failed attempt by the ex-terrorist raises security concerns at the site.

Bullets were fired on Wednesday at Golden Temple premises in Punjab's Amritsar where Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders, including party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, are offering 'seva' under the religious punishments pronounced for them by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
