Near Buffalo, between 10 and 20 inches of lake effect snow is expected by the end of Sunday, according to the Weather Service. The southern part of Erie County, along with Wyoming, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties, are predicted to see 2 to 4 feet of snow by Monday night.

The US state of New York saw its first major snowfall over the weekend. Instead of heavy Thanksgiving traffic, highways were closed. A state of emergency has already been declared. The heavy snowfall could last the whole week.

The governor of Pennsylvania has signed a disaster emergency declaration and reported that parts of Erie County in the northwest have received nearly a meter of snow, with more expected to fall until Monday night.
