A deputy in South Carolina has been killed in an ambush while attempting to arrest a suspect. Authorities say Darlington County deputy Devin Mason and another officer were attacked inside a home near Lamar around 1:30 a.

A South Carolina deputy and a suspect are both dead following an overnight ambush and shooting. According to the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a home on Old Timers Court in connection with a wanted individual. During the encounter inside the residence, two deputies were ambushed.

During a chase, Stevenson “presented” both a machete and a gun, according to the sheriff’s office. In response, deputies shot Stevenson, according to the release.
