NWS confirms tornado on Detroit’s east side Thursday, city’s first in nearly 30 years

DETROIT – The Detroit mayor confirmed there was a tornado on the city’s east side on Thursday. Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield said the National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down in the city on Thursday, Sept. 3. This is the first time a tornado was confirmed in the city since 1997. No further details on the tornado were provided.
