So far, it's been a busy hurricane season for everyone at the National Weather Service. There are 3 hurricanes they are keeping an eye on which are Lowell, Karina and Marie.

Hurricane Lowell grew alarmingly into a Category 5 storm as it hurtled towards Hawaii with winds nearing 160mph. Thankfully for the residents of the Hawaiian Islands, it since was downgraded to Category 4 but still remains a major threat according to officials.

The Category 4 storm has been moving well south of the islands this week. It is expected to turn north sometime this weekend.

Tropical Storm Lowell entered the Central Pacific this morning and is on a track that will bring it south of Hawaii as a strong Category 2 hurricane by the end of this week, forecasters said.

Despite Karina’s power, it is not the strongest hurricane in the Pacific this season. That honor goes to Hurricane Genevieve, which peaked as a Category 5 storm with 160 mph winds in late July. Genevieve never directly affected land.

Lowell joins Hurricane Karina as the second Category 4 storm in the eastern Pacific, with Tropical Storm Marie close behind.
