Israel launched a punishing air campaign on Iran early Friday, killing some of the upper echelons of Iran’s military leadership along with parts of its nuclear infrastructure.

Israel launched strikes across Iran on Friday, saying they targeted the "heart" of Iran's nuclear programme. The strikes killed Hossein Salami, chief of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards - a powerful branch of the country's armed forces - other senior military figures and nuclear scientists, Iranian state media reported.

Israel’s military struck Tehran and other targets early Friday morning, raising fears of a broader war. The U.S. said it was not involved in the strikes.
