The backlash against AI and Big Tech came right to the G20’s doorstep on Wednesday, as the summit is being held at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. About 100 students and local residents participated in a protest against the in-person and virtual appearances by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Elon Musk and Howard Lutnick.

Federal agencies hosted the G20 event attended by Altman, Karp and Huang. Student protesters marched to the Carolina Inn and denounced AI and surveillance. Altman called AI transformative and said more infrastructure is needed.
