With a quarter-million customers without power ahead of the holiday weekend, Metro Detroit is looking at another few days of lost electricity.

DTE and Consumers Energy say their restoration workers are spread across their service areas, working to restore power to customers.

DETROIT - A day after severe storms lashed out across Southeast Michigan, more than 260,000 homes and businesses remained without power Friday morning. The bulk of the outages - more than 240,000 - are DTE customers. The majority of those are in Oakland, Wayne, Washtenaw and Livingston counties.

More than 250,000 DTE Energy and Consumers Energy customers were without power Friday after storms hit metro Detroit and southeast Michigan on Thursday.

In a report filed with the Michigan Public Service Commission, the utilities outlined improvements they could make in storm preparation and response.

Facing a state investigation into its holiday weekend outages, utility DTE Energy's CEO said storms developed "with little advance warning."

Overall, by mid-morning Friday, DTE Energy reported 265,000 customers without electricity shortly before 11 a.m., up by 25,000 from early in the morning, as storms continued to move through the region.
