Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the country is prepared to respond in a “purposeful, forceful but reasonable, immediate” manner should President Donald Trump go through with a threatened 25% tariff on Canadian imports on Saturday. Tariffs are “not what we want, but if he moves forward, we will also act,” he said on Friday.

On January 31, the American president maintained that he would carry out his threat to impose tariffs of up to 25% on Canadian and Mexican products. The Canadian government asserted that its response would be immediate.
