A t least 30 people have died in Beijing and more than 80,000 were evacuated to safety, Chinese authorities said, as heavy rains and floods ravage roads and houses in northern China. Eight other people died after a landslide on Monday in Chengde city, about three hours northeast of Beijing.

Authorities in Beijing warned that parts of the Chinese capital could see more than 300 millimeters (12 inches) of rain on Monday evening, urging residents to stay indoors.

Heavy rainfall continues to bombard Beijing and surrounding provinces, leading to fatalities and evacuations. With heightened disaster risks, authorities have relocated thousands and issued flood alerts.
