An AMD executive has promised that fresh stock of RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards – which are currently all sold out in the US, and seemingly most other regions besides – is winging its way to stores across the globe.

It's been a long time coming for AMD to reveal RDNA 4, but has it been worth the wait? Presently, the only two graphics cards of AMD's current GPU generation, the RX 9070 XT and 9070, seek the fill the budget space left in the market by Nvidia, as Team Green has pushed the bleeding edge of performance (and prices) up over the years.

Nvidia got a jump on AMD when it introduced hardware-accelerated ray-tracing in the RTX 20-series in 2018. And while these effects were only supported in a few games at the time, many modern games offer at least some kind of ray-traced lighting effects.

AMD really came out swinging with the Radeon RX 9070 XT. At $599, it undercuts the Nvidia Geforce RTX 5070 Ti by a whopping 21%, but ends up being, on average, 2% faster. There are games where the RTX 5070 Ti beats the Radeon RX 9070 XT, but the fact that these two graphics cards are trading blows at all is a win for AMD.

Gamers and creators seeking a powerful yet reasonably priced GPU should look no further than the RX 9070 XT—it's the best value in its class.

Nvidia’s dominance over the latest generation of graphics cards ends today. AMD might have surrendered the high end of the GPU market, but its new $549 Radeon RX 9070 and $599 RX 9070 XT look set to bring Nvidia back to reality, at least in the midrange.
